What it is used for

Rosuvastatin is used to lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and triglycerides and to raise HDL (good) cholesterol when diet and exercise alone are not enough. It is also used to reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke in people at higher risk, such as those with diabetes, high blood pressure or a strong family history of heart disease. It works best alongside a healthy diet, regular activity and not smoking.

How it works

Rosuvastatin blocks an enzyme in the liver (HMG-CoA reductase) that the body uses to make cholesterol. The liver then takes more LDL cholesterol out of the blood.
