What it is used for

This combination is used to relieve the pain, swelling and stiffness of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. It is meant for people who need a regular anti-inflammatory painkiller but have a higher risk of developing stomach ulcers from it. It is not designed for quick relief of sudden pain.

How it works

Naproxen reduces the production of prostaglandins, chemicals that cause pain and inflammation, while esomeprazole lowers stomach acid to reduce the chance of naproxen causing ulcers. The tablet is built so that esomeprazole is released first and naproxen later, further along the gut.
