What it is used for
Meropenem is a hospital antibiotic used for serious infections, such as severe pneumonia (including pneumonia caught in hospital), complicated infections of the abdomen, kidneys and urinary tract, or skin, and bacterial meningitis. It is also used for sepsis and for fever in people with very low white blood cell counts. It is usually kept for infections caused by bacteria that other antibiotics cannot treat.
How it works
Meropenem stops bacteria from building their cell walls, so the bacteria burst and die. It works against a wide range of bacteria.
