What it is used for

This combination is used to control blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes, together with diet and exercise. It is used when metformin alone does not control blood sugar well enough, or to replace linagliptin and metformin taken as separate tablets. It may also be used with insulin or a sulfonylurea.

How it works

Linagliptin raises gut hormones that help the pancreas release insulin after meals. Metformin reduces the amount of sugar the liver releases and helps the body use insulin better.
