What it is used for

This combination is used to prevent blood clots in people who need both medicines, such as after a heart attack, unstable angina, or after a stent is placed in a heart artery. It is usually started once a doctor has decided that both clopidogrel and aspirin are needed. Having both in one tablet can make it simpler to take them.

Common side effects include bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, indigestion, stomach pain and diarrhoea. Because it contains two blood thinners, the risk of bleeding, including bleeding from the stomach, is higher than with either one alone.

Warnings

Do not stop taking it without talking to your doctor, especially if you have a stent, as stopping early can cause a clot.
Get emergency care for signs of serious bleeding: vomiting blood or material like coffee grounds, black stools, red or brown urine, a sudden severe headache or a cut that keeps bleeding.
If you develop dengue fever or unexplained bleeding, contact your doctor straight away.
Avoid alcohol and do not take other painkillers such as ibuprofen or diclofenac without advice, as they raise the risk of stomach bleeding.
