What it is used for

This combination is used to relieve heartburn, acid indigestion and symptoms of acid reflux, such as a burning feeling in the chest or acid rising into the throat. It is often used for heartburn in pregnancy, on the advice of a doctor or midwife.

How it works

Sodium alginate reacts with stomach acid to form a thick gel layer, or raft, on top of the stomach contents, which helps keep acid from rising into the food pipe. The bicarbonate and calcium carbonate neutralise stomach acid.
