What it is used for

This medicine is used to relieve heartburn, acid indigestion and the discomfort of acid reflux (gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, or GORD). It is often used for reflux symptoms in pregnancy. It gives fast relief and can be used alongside other reflux treatment if your doctor advises.

How it works

In the stomach, sodium alginate reacts with acid to form a thick gel. The potassium bicarbonate releases gas that makes this gel float as a protective layer (a 'raft') on top of the stomach contents, which helps keep acid out of the food pipe.
