What it is used for
Rupatadine is used to relieve the symptoms of allergic rhinitis, such as sneezing, a runny or itchy nose and itchy, watery eyes. This includes seasonal allergies and year-round allergies to dust mites or pet hair. It is also used for chronic hives (urticaria), to reduce itching and raised, itchy weals on the skin.
How it works
Rupatadine blocks histamine, a chemical the body releases during an allergic reaction. It also blocks another inflammatory substance called platelet-activating factor, which is involved in allergy symptoms.
