What it is used for

Loratadine is used to relieve hay fever and other allergy symptoms, such as sneezing, a runny or itchy nose and itchy, watery eyes, including allergies to dust, pollen or pets. It is also used for hives (urticaria) and other itchy allergic skin rashes. A liquid form is available for children.

How it works

Loratadine blocks the action of histamine, a chemical released during an allergic reaction. It does not easily enter the brain, so it is less likely to cause sleepiness than older antihistamines.
