What it is used for

Cefuroxime is an antibiotic used for infections of the throat, tonsils, sinuses, ears and chest, including flare-ups of chronic bronchitis and some pneumonias. It is also used for urinary tract and skin infections and uncomplicated gonorrhoea. The injection is used in hospital for more serious infections and to prevent infection during surgery.

How it works

Cefuroxime stops bacteria from building their protective cell wall, so they die. It works against a range of bacteria but not against viruses.
