What it is used for
Cefpodoxime is used to treat bacterial infections of the ears, nose, throat and chest, such as sinusitis, tonsillitis, middle ear infections in children, bronchitis flare-ups and community-acquired pneumonia. It is also used for uncomplicated urinary tract infections and some skin infections. It works only against bacteria, not against the viruses that cause colds and flu.
How it works
Cefpodoxime stops bacteria from building their protective cell walls, so the bacteria break down and die. It is taken by mouth and changed into its active form in the body.
