What it is used for

Insulin glargine is used to control blood sugar in diabetes, in adults and in children above a certain age. It provides steady background (basal) insulin through the day and night. People with type 1 diabetes use it with a mealtime insulin, while people with type 2 diabetes may use it alone or with tablets or other injectable medicines.

How it works

Insulin glargine is a modified form of human insulin. After injection it forms tiny deposits under the skin that release insulin slowly and steadily, without a strong peak, lowering blood sugar by helping it move into the body's cells.
