What it is used for

Chloramphenicol eye drops and ointment treat bacterial infections on the surface of the eye, most commonly bacterial conjunctivitis, which causes a red, gritty eye with sticky yellow or green discharge. Doctors may also prescribe it for other minor bacterial infections of the eye and eyelids. It does not treat eye problems caused by viruses or allergies.
