What it is used for
Tamsulosin is used in men to relieve urinary symptoms caused by an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia). These include a weak flow, difficulty starting to pass urine, needing to go often or urgently, and waking at night to pass urine. It eases symptoms but does not treat the cause of the enlarged prostate.
How it works
Tamsulosin relaxes the muscle in the prostate and at the neck of the bladder. This makes it easier for urine to flow out of the bladder.
