What it is used for
This combination is used to prevent and treat a lack of calcium and vitamin D, for example in older adults, people who get little sunlight, and during pregnancy or breastfeeding when a doctor advises it. It is often given alongside other treatment for osteoporosis (thin, weak bones) to help protect the bones. How it works

Common side effects
Most people tolerate it well. The most common side effects are constipation, wind, bloating and mild stomach upset. Taking too much for a long time can raise calcium levels in the blood.

Warnings

Why is vitamin D3 added to calcium?
Without enough vitamin D, much of the calcium you take is not absorbed. Combining the two in one tablet helps the body use the calcium, which is why they are often prescribed together for bone health.
