What it is used for
Calcium carbonate is used as a calcium supplement to prevent or treat low calcium, for example when the diet is low in calcium, and alongside treatment for osteoporosis (thin bones). Chewable tablets are also used as an antacid to relieve heartburn and indigestion. In people with kidney disease, doctors sometimes use it to control high phosphate levels in the blood.
How it works
